Guide to Trekking in the Cameron Highlands

Cameron Highlands is one of Malaysia’s most popular hiking destinations, with 14 famous trails around the main town of Tanah Rata. Most of the 14 trails in Cameron Highlands do not require a guide. However, identifiers are limited to specific paths that do not exist and are easily lost. Robberies have also been recorded on the track. Therefore, you should let the owner of the hotel know which way you are going, when to leave and when to return. Also recommend not hiking alone, especially on less popular trails, because there will don’t meet many other hikers.

Here are some climbing trails can share to the mountain climbers:

Trail 1:

Trail 1 leads to the top of Gunung Brinchang, with an altitude of 2032 meters. The hike is long, but it also pays off, as it takes you through some beautiful scenery through the Boh Tea Plantations and takes you to Cameron Highlands’ second highest peak.

If you are walking in Tanah Rata, you may need to hitchhike or take a taxi to the head of the trail. The trail is located north of the town of Brinchang.

If you feel particularly ambitious, you can keep going down the head of route 14. The trail will take you up to the top of the ridge at Gunung Irau, at 2,110 meters, the highest point in Cameron Highlands.

Trail 2:

The second trail starts from the Brinchang’s village of the Buddhist temple and joins the third. It’s not well marked and hilly.

Trail 3:

The third trail will take you to the top of Gunung Berembun at an altitude of 1840 meters. To be honest with you: there’s nothing to write about at the top of “Gunung Berembun.” The top of the hill is overgrown with weeds. You can only see a tiny view. The trail is clear and well defined, taking you through the jungle, through the river, through the beautiful vegetation and scenery.

Trail 4:

If you’re looking for a short and easy hike, trail 4 is a good choice, mainly paving. Some waterfalls can be seen along the path. Unfortunately, the waterfall itself isn’t that impressive.

Trail 5:

This hiking route 5 doesn’t have more information, but that has positive comments from other tourists.

Trail 6:

Many people are advised not to take route 6 because it is easy to get lost and there are few road signs.

Trail 7:

Trail 7 is a beautiful trail that is relatively easy to walk. The first 250 metres of the trail were overgrown with weeds, but later it widened and became more pleasant. Followed route 7 to the top of Gunung Beremban, then turned back on routes 3 and 4. See article 3 for more information.

Trail 8:

Trail 8, similar to trails 3 and 7, takes you to the summit of Gunung Berembun. The trail starts at Robinson Waterfall and joins the third trail.

Trails 9 and 9a:

Several people (both locals and tourists) advise not to try trail 9 because of the number of robberies.

Track 10:

Trail 10 is a beautiful half-day hike. It passes through ancient mossy rain forests, and because of the accumulation of moss, the ground is very “soft” when you walk. There are signposts along the way. At the end of the road, that has a large commercial power plant and followed it until it was connected to the road.

Trail 11:

There was a landslide on route 11. So, don’t mind going.

Trail 12:

Trail 12 is permanently closed. The mountain that trail 12 leads to was dug up for real estate. Cameron Highlands is growing at an alarming rate.

Trail 13:

According to the site, the mystery Trail merged with Trail 14. This is the only one of the 14 roads not shown on the open street map.

Trail 14:

Trail 14 takes you along a forested ridge to Gunung Irau, the summit of Cameron Highlands. It sounds like an amazing journey through a mossy forest, and the spectacular scenery looks like something out of Lord of the rings! Prepared to tell people where you’re going. The path to Gunung Irau begins at the end of the boardwalk and runs through the mossy forest on Trail 1.

Addition: Mossy Forest

The mossy forest is a natural environment that grows only at the highest elevation in the Cameron highlands and other mountains across Malaysia. At this height, driven by the wind, low clouds cover the forest, constant fog and moisture — creating an ideal ecological environment for mosses, ferns, lichens and orchids.

This moist tropical evergreen forest is also a rich treasure-house for a variety of mountain creatures, including insects, snakes, frogs, birds and mammals unique to this cold atmosphere. Visitors can explore the mossy forest from the open space on the main road along the two-kilometer boardwalk in front of the peak of Gunung Brinchang.

Thick forests and slimy moss cover much of Brinchang. Fortunately, this mysterious environment is topped by enthusiastic hikers through one of the following paths. A two-kilometer (1.2-mile) boardwalk cuts through thick foliage and towering trees known as the moss forest (trail 14). Falling fog mixes with low clouds to create an eerie atmosphere that disturbs even the toughest of people. Apart from the sweeping views on a clear day, keep your eyes open for colourful orchids, carnivorous pitcher plants and otherworldly photo opportunities.
